About the Initiative
Coding is essential for helping youth thrive in a future driven by technology. Everyone should have the opportunity to learn to code. Launched in 2016, the Everyone Can Code program gives everyone the power to learn, write and teach code using Swift -- a powerful and easy to use programming language created by Apple and embraced by developers and businesses everywhere.
In December 2017, the Everyone Can Code Chicago initiative was launched as a public-private partnership that expands opportunities for youth to develop coding skills and explore career pathways. Through this initiative, employees at local businesses share their professional experience with youth. And the youth have the opportunity to gain work experience through internships.

iPad. The perfect
launchpad for learning code.
iPad makes learning how to code fun and interactive for students. The Swift Playgrounds app takes full advantage of all the Multi-Touch features of iPad, so students can drag code around with their fingers and watch the effects immediately unfold. They can experience how code works in the physical world by using iPad to control robots and drones.
Different levels. Fun interactive. No coding experience needed.

Help students graduate to making
real apps with Swift on Mac.
When your students are ready to create an app, they can move on to developing on Mac in Xcode. We've created lessons that you equip them with the same tools, techniques, and concepts professionals use. So you can enable students to build working apps that make their ideas a reality.
Training Program

Pre-professional internships feature technology professionals mentoring small groups of aspiring coding students through hands-on, project-based activities. Ideas for possible internship activities include: creating a project plan to add new features to an existing app, building simple app features for a demo, discussing ideas for user interface improvements, or prototyping creative technical solutions that are unique to our business.
Youth develop soft skills, such as collaboration, creativity, communication, leadership, and responsibility, along with problem-solving, analytical thinking, and core technical skills. All activities build on the skills and knowledge students have acquired through Apple’s Everyone Can Code curriculum. |
