Since your participation in the Everyone Can Code Chicago program, please describe how you have further developed your coding/technology skills (if applicable).
I started the summer of 2018 and ever since have been moving forward. I am now a computer science major and am apart of NSBE. Every opportunity I get to build not only my skill of coding on swift but teaching it at a beginners level I am thrilled. Being in college is helping me to learn to code in some other languages.
What is your motivating factor for being in the program?
My motivating factor for being in the program is that I enjoy learning new things and building on old skills. I also believe one summer Chicago like no other program makes the process of growing the most enjoyable way to learn. The three years I have been a part of One Summer Chicago I have worked with some great people that I feel have made a connection like no other job. I’ve been granted great opportunities because of my work with One summer Chicago’s help, the journey doesn’t end yet. I know I can learn more from One Summer Chicago and the people they have employed. I also know I have way more to offer One Summer Chicago.
Please describe your education and/or career goals.
My Education goals at the moment aren’t super specific, but being in One Summer Chicago’s program has helped me realize I do have a love for computer Science. I am attending Bradley University with Computer Science as my major. I will one day become a software Developer and hopefully for a company I’m the boss of. I have had the opportunity to intern at Innovare and that job really showed me the different options I have in the computer science field. My last two jobs with Everyone can Code has also given me the opportunity to teach and practice my skills in a classroom setting. Both these different job opportunities have shown me how diverse this field gets. Career wise computer science has so many options and at the moment I want to try them all.

I am currently a fellow at Code Nation and attend classes every Tuesday after school. Code Nation is similar to a coding boot camp where we learn about coding concepts and web development involving- HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
I am also currently in AP computer Science A in school where we are learning how to code in Java. I am also in a class called Microarchitecture where we learn how to model and code electrical circuits.

What is your motivating factor for being in the program?
My motivating factor for being in the program is to continue my coding experience in general and in Xcode. My fascination with computers began when I was very young because of a drive to solve puzzles and problems. Computers pose many puzzle-like obstacles to overcome with my interests ranging over the years from mods to videogames, cybersecurity, to developing apps. Computer science always has a new problem for me to face head on. My other classes have always felt methodical: one formula with one solution, which was too confining. So when I found coding and computer science I was ecstatic because it became my escape from a mundane mindset. I finally felt challenged and free. Problems had an abundance of solutions with each one posing different obstacles, and I learned to think outside the box. The ECC program last year helped nurture this mindset and it showed when I was part of the 4 winning teams for the ECC competition. Given the chance to be apart of this program, I know I can learn even more this time and think bigger and smarter than last year.
Please describe your education and/or career goals.
My short term education goals are to go college and earn a degree in computer science. As a senior I have already received multiple college acceptance letters but I am still waiting on a couple that could change my top choices. I have already been accepted to 9 schools, most with scholarships, and my top choice of the ones I have been accepted to being Purdue. Purdue is currently my top choice because it is ranked 20th best computer science school in the United States according to USA News & World Report. Thinking more long term I plan to continue to take advantage of every opportunity in order to land a job after college in the tech industry where I can work on projects that have the ability to improve others lives, especially the lives of minorities or people in impoverished communities. Eventually I hope to start my own company or take a similar large step in another company in order to combine my interests in entrepreneurial ventures and computer science.

After participating in the Everyone Can Code Program last summer I have started to grown an interest in the coding language: swift and I started using the app swift playground in the app store. I also have been learning JavaScript within my web design class at school and after school with the Code Nation Fellowship program.
What is your motivating factor for being in the program?
There is a lot of factors that motivated me to apply to this program, but one major factor is being able to work with like-minded people who have a similar interest as me. Being able to participate in Everyone Can Code last year, I was able to participate with so many like-minded people and it gave me an opportunity to bounce off ideas which overall made me more interested in front-end development. I also learned a good amount of swift last year which motivated me to continue learning it by myself with swift playground. Overall this program is a wonderful experience especially for someone who is about to go to college, it will give me a chance to gain some experience that relates to my future career.
Please describe your education and/or career goals.
My overall career goal is to become a software engineer and a photographer. I started coding when I was in 6th grade and it eventually became something I stuck with. I found myself struggling when I first started coding but the struggles motivated me to continue learning how to code and that is what I did. I participated in numerous extracurricular activities such as; programs with Code Nation, Everyone Can Code last year, CodeNext with Google, and etc. The reason I participated in countless extracurricular activities is that I wanted to make sure that I was really interested in computer science and I want to pursue it during college. I also have my own photography business which I would like to continue in the future as a hobby.

Since the ECC program, I have further developed my skills through my coding internship at Stripe. Over the past couple of months, I have developed technical and social skills that are crucial to becoming a key programmer.
What is your motivating factor for being in the program?
Ever since I was little, I have been quite fond of programming. I started with Scratch, then Python, now Javascript. I kept at it, never understanding why I enjoyed it so much. Now that I am older, I have recognized why. The main reason why I started enjoying it at such a young age is that I knew that I could always improve. There would always be new concepts and new languages I could learn. This program will another way I can engage my interest, as I will be learning something new each day.
Please describe your education and/or career goals.
I go to Latin School of Chicago, a private school near downtown Chicago. I love the school, which is why I am a lifer there. I am currently a sophomore. I purposefully schedule a rigorous course load for myself since I know it will pay off long-term. The majority of these courses I am taking a computer science-related. From the basic learning of computer science principles to learning about data manipulation and analysis, my goal is to take all of the computer science courses my school offers.
When it comes to my career goals, I already know what I want. I want to go to a top technology school, hopefully in the West. Partake in internships to tidy my professional skills. Finally, I would like to get a job at a top technology company. This is my dream and will be my reality. I am willing to work towards these arching goals.

Since the summer of 2020, I have been working on projects for my Web Design class inside of school. This daily class uses mainly front-end development work by using the coding languages of HTML, CSS, and Javascript. This class is very interesting to me and one of my favorite classes this semester so I believe it is a very strong way of keeping my coding skills updated. I am also inside of a weekly internship named Code Nation in which we work closely next to a company named "Shoprunner" that also is based on front-end development. These two opportunities allow me to further develop my coding skills by challenging me with different tasks.
What is your motivating factor for being in the program?
I find learning and solving problems to be very intriguing. Whether it be inside front-end, back-end, or other types of coding languages you will always find a bug to fix. This type of inevitable problem solving is a way for me to keep learning. Learning about different languages or ways to solve a problem challenges me. These types of challenges push me to become a more efficient thinker which helps not only in coding but also in daily life decisions. Coding is my passion and to be able to network with others who carry this same passion is a great opportunity.
Please describe your education and/or career goals.
I am a high school student at Lindblom Math & Science Academy on the south side of Chicago. My plans after high school are to go to college and major in the computer science field. For a future career, I would take an opportunity that includes a computer science/technology-based work field. Another career goal would be to work closely with the NBA or other star name companies like Apple as well. My goals now are to learn many different coding languages to diversify the amount of work I can do. Therefore I can have a good resume of back-end or front-end development in my knowledge.

Since my participation in the Everyone Can code program i have implemented my knowledge with swift to my AP computer science class. Although my AP computer science class uses code.org I am able to make valuable connections between the programs since I can identify similarities between them.
What is your motivating factor for being in the program?
I have many motivating factors that draw me to participating in this program. One of my main motivation factors is that I would like to further develop my skills and explore whether or not I would like to peruse this as a career. I believe that there is a large need for coding and programmers now and in the future since our world is constantly evolving to be more technology based. Therefore I am considering a career in this field, but I feel as if I need more experience with coding in order to see if it’s a good fit for me or not. This program will also make me more well rounded for college applications and potentially much needed scholarships.
Please describe your education and/or career goals.
As of right now i have more experience in engineering because i have been a part of a engineering program since the sixth grade. In this program I have touched upon robotics, coding, Auto desk inventor, sketch up, principles of engineering, etc. Therefore I am leaning to a STEM career. Although I am leaning towards a STEM career I am still exploring other career fields that I feel passionate for as well like a law career. I plan on attending college and perusing a bachelors degree at the very least but I would love to get my masters if the opportunity presents itself at the time.

Since my participation in the Everyone Can Code Chicago program with Asian Human Services learning App Development with Swift, I noticed my collaboration skills improved tremendously which was a reason for me to continue studying computer science. I am now a senior in high school, and I take AP Computer Science A, a course at my school, Jones College Prep, where I have essentially been learning object-oriented programming with Java. I also currently am the Co-President of the Computer Science Honor Society at my school so I can continue immersing myself with opportunities and resources to learn more about the impacts of computer science on the world.
What is your motivating factor for being in the program?
My fascination for bringing things to life began when I was a younger child when I started experimenting with iMovie on my first iPad. I would spend hours trying to make a story come to life, and now that fascination continues to spark my mind. I want to bring an app to life and really challenge myself, since I have tried making an app prototype before, but have never had the opportunity to publish it. I love learning and I believe that the best way to learn is to be challenged, so hopefully trough partaking in this program, I can learn the fundamentals of what it takes to develop a mobile app, which is something that I hope to pursue in the future. App development has always seemed so complex and intricate that I have always been intimidated by it, until I had an opportunity to experiment with it, and now I want to give it a shot myself and hopefully create something impactful and walk away with knowledge that will aid my future studies and career aspirations.
Please describe your education and/or career goals.
I am currently a senior at Jones College Prep and an aspiring Computer Science major planning to attend the University of Illinois at Chicago. I took my first computer science course my junior year where I took AP Computer Science principles where I became fascinated with all the different innovations in the world that have been created through computer science. My curiosity with this field that I always thought was too hard to pursue was through the roof. I listened to my gut to pursue this curiosity and began taking AP Computer Science A at my school, which is mostly learning programming with Java. I am now the Co-President of my schools Computer Science Honor society so I could support other students' curiosity with the field as well as fuel my own. I am happy that I began to pursue this field because I have been fascinated with the endless number of possibilities it can create in the world. I plan to major in Computer Science and one day hope to be a software developer and to eventually start my own business creating meaningful and sustainable solutions for the world through computer science.

Ever since I participated in ECC, I also decided to take part in another swift program training where we also went over the basics of the SWIFT programming language. I also then put myself to take another coding class at school where I would be learning JAVA and would be creating games. I did this to open up my option when it comes to deciding on what career I would like relating to coding.
What is your motivating factor for being in the program?
My most motivating factor is that I know I need more practice in the SWIFT programming language and this program was the reason why I sparked an interest in creating apps for iPhones. This program will look good on my resume and when it comes to explaining at internships what I have done to show and start my interest in SWIFT. This program is pushing me to go and open more opportunities while being able to help me build up my skills with professionals and others who also have an interest in creating apps.
Please describe your education and/or career goals.
After this ECC summer program, I grabbed an interest where I kept telling myself that I want a career with mobile application development and Ive been looking more into job and internship opportunities to help me build up my skills. I will also be taking mobile application development courses and classes in college. In college, I will be majoring in Computer Science. I will also like to get the change to study and learn more about REACT NATIVE so I can feel comfortable knowing both most common used programming languages when it comes to coding apps.

Since your participation in the Everyone Can Code Chicago program, please describe how you have further developed your coding/technology skills (if applicable).
At my school I've been taking several programming courses to expand my knowledge of coding. I am taking Software Apps I where I create apps in Android Studio, Intro to AI learning about AI and coding in Python, taking AP Computer Science Principles where I create apps in JavaScript, and even taking Microarchitecture Logic Design where I can create circuits and learn about hardware. I also am currently in the Fellowship program with CodeNation where we create apps in languages such as HTML, CSS, and Javascript. I recently joined the Lane Tech Pro Team where we work in our school's makerspace and are currently working on a project to build our own 3D Printers. I am very grateful to be involved in so many tech related clubs and classes and I would love any opportunity to improve my coding skills.
What is your motivating factor for being in the program?
Getting the chance to participate in last summer’s EveryoneCanCode training program, I got exposed to another side of programming and learned a new language, Swift. When I heard we would compete for the opportunity to create our own app and bring it to the app store, I was immediately ecstatic thinking about the possibilities that awaited me. My partner and I worked incredibly hard to come up with an app with a topic that I was particularly passionate about. The day of presentations I was a nervous wreck, wanting this so bad and hoping that all my effort would be worth it. I gave my all into the presentation, but with technical difficulties it felt like my message had been lost. Once the results had been announced, the loss felt like a kick to the stomach and I was immensely disappointed. I thought I had missed my chance, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, to see what it was like to release an app on the App Store. However, after some time self-reflecting, I realized that this only meant I needed to be better. I needed to work harder, so that the next time I got an opportunity like this, it wouldn’t be wasted. For me my motivation lies in the fact that I did fail and it probably would not be the last time. However I believe that learning from failure is what makes people better, and I want to learn from my mistakes to improve myself. I want to show that with lots of hard work and determination I can do anything I set my sights on.
Please describe your education and/or career goals.
Ever since I found my love of coding, I’ve made it my goal in life to get better at it by any means necessary. During highschool, that meant taking as many coding classes as I could to learn as many different programming languages as possible. Outside of school, I would join clubs that would extend my knowledge of coding and introduce me to the possible career options I had in tech. I plan to continue learning and refining my skills as a programmer, so that once I enter the industry I can have as many weapons as possible in my arsenal of coding. I may not know exactly what my future holds, but I know that my path will become clearer to me along the way. I will take the steps necessary to get closer and closer to my goal of being a programmer. To be better, I want to learn as much as I can, while attending whichever university will help me realize my dream, Whether that means learning advanced topics in my university classes, taking coding bootcamps to learn skills that I need for employment, building relationships with and broadening my network with professionals in my field, or experiencing first-hand what it’s like to be in the workplace through co-ops and internships. I want to find my place in life and wherever my path will take me, I plan to enjoy the journey.

Since your participation in the Everyone Can Code Chicago program, please describe how you have further developed your coding/technology skills (if applicable).
I have enrolled in a gaming class so I am currently learning Processing to add to my knowledge of coding languages.
What is your motivating factor for being in the program?
My motivating factor for being in the program is to expand my knowledge and experience on app developing. I love coding and computer science including web design, game design, and app development. Being a part of this program would grant me more experience in app developing and help enlighten me on what kind of career I would like to have in the future. I would also love the chance to learn from professional app developers and coders. The summer program was such an amazing experience and I was able to learn so much that being in the App Accelerator program would not only enable me to have an app in the app store but to learn even more about apps and the work it takes to get an app into the app store.
Please describe your education and/or career goals.
One of my education goals is to get a degree in computer science. An education and a computer science degree will help me develop and grow my coding skills, so I can be more useful and efficient to help the world through coding. Tech is the way of the future as I submitted this and you are reading this using technology. So it is only fitting for me to improve and explore my tech skills by going to college and getting my degree in computer science. I want to use my passion to help those less fortunate and to help bridge the gender gap in STEM. I want to help those who are homeless, or who have less resources or access to everyday essentials, using technology. With a degree and an education in computer science I will have the skills to turn this idea into a well developed reality. I also want to use my degree to help bridge the gender gap in STEM. There are not as many women in STEM as men, and I want to use what I learn from college to continue to create clubs like Girls Who Code. I plan to introduce more females to STEM to open their eyes to jobs within the field.

Everyone Can Code Chicago was truly a mesmerizing experience for me and my path towards achieving a career in ever-growing technological field. Never did I believe before my time participating in A Knock At Midnights training program did I think I would find such a passion for app development, and the endless creative possibilities that innovators can access. Since Everyone Can Code Chicago, I continued my participation in the Code Nation Family and am now further developing my JavaScript programming skills in their fellowship program with the Shop Runner Company. On top of this, I have continue my efforts with developing my C++ programing language efficiency, as well as my overall academics in the MIT summer program known as MOSTEC.
What is your motivating factor for being in the program?
Technology serves as a major tool in the advancement of our human race. However, I see technology as more than just a tool. Technology can be used as an art form; the only limitation is the extent of an innovator's imagination. Technology can be used to give a voice to the voiceless, allowing those to make their issues heard and free society of its ignorance. Technology can be used to facilitate the change that will further evolve our world, and change our biggest questions from “How can we?” to “When can we?” This is what I feel entices me the most in the spectrum of technology. The endless possibilities. Everyone Can Code Chicago taught me this through their training program. The training program wasn't just sitting through a hour long virtual class, but an interactive space where students could find something their passionate about and create a platform the spread awareness and develop a solution. The app concepts pitched by my fellow programmers were outstanding, covering a broad spectrum of global and local issues in unique formats that could really reel in public users. This was I love the most. Minority students like myself can create something that stands out. No longer should students be suppressed by the stereotypes that act as their greatest obstacles to creating something impactful. If there's anything ECC has taught me, its that an app can be used to turn dreams into a reality. In my technological endeavors, I hope my app can be on that takes the world by storm.
Please describe your education and/or career goals.
I want to become the next Elon Musk. Now this may sound insane, with Elon Musk being now the richest man on this planet, as well as one of the most influential people within the technological industry. But for me, as a minority student, I want to be in a position LIKE Elon Musk. I want to be able to create something, whether it be an app, a robot, or some sort of start-up company, that takes the world by surprise. I want to be the one who brought awareness to a global concept in the most innovating way possible, just like Elon Musk. So in my academic pursuits, being now a senior in high school, I want to be able to peruse opportunities like Everyone Can Code Chicago to give me a fighting-edge, especially with my desire to peruse an Ivy League education, with Stanford and Princeton topping my list. I feel that this prestigious education is the perfect bridge to find myself as a senior tech lead in some of the biggest tech-companies in the world, whether it be Google, Microsoft, Amazon, or Nvidia, that provides me the unlimited resources in order to develop my dreams. I want to be part of our generation's top innovators, who will develop the products and machinery needed to both push and sustain human evolution for many generation to come. As I said before, I see tech as a way for me to both express myself and change the world for the better, and in my life I hope to one day reside with or create my own company that wants to change our world, one creation at a time.
